A
dream was realized in 1969 to house, clothe, and educate at-risk
children in crisis. When Joel and Nina Taylor, ranchers in
the Albuquerque area, were introduced to A. F. Cole, a construction
contractor in the Albuquerque area, the dream began to materialize.
The Taylor family so generously gave five acres of land upon
which to build a home, and A. F. Cole oversaw the construction.
Since that time, the Taylors have given twenty-three more
acres and A.F Cole continued to manage the construction of
the cottages. In earlier years, the Taylors bought all the
land surrounding the home and used it as a cattle ranch. The
community on the west side of Albuquerque is known as Taylor
Ranch.
Since placement of the first children in 1970, Albuquerque
Christian Children's Home has cared for nearly five hundred
children. Approximately twenty children receive care at any
given time. The purpose of the home is to nurture, guide,
and inspire children to be honest, have a healthy self-image,
and to put God first in their lives. The goals of the home
are to help young children become responsible citizens of
their community, hold fulfilling jobs, and care for their
fellow man. |
